95-Year-Old William Shatner Launches Heavy Metal Album and Band
William Shatner, age 95, has recorded a heavy-metal album titled “What the F is Heavy Metal” and debuted his new band, The *uckers, at Riot Fest in Chicago.
At 95, William Shatner has entered the heavy-metal arena, releasing the album “What the F is Heavy Metal” after collaborating with author Robert Sharenow on six new songs. The record features contributions from over 50 metal artists, among them Queen guitarist Brian May, and reinterprets classics like Metallica’s “Enter Sandman.” To promote the album, Shatner formed the band The *uckers, composed of Marcus Nand, Britt Lightning, Phil Soussan and Fred Aching, and they made their live debut at Chicago’s Riot Fest, playing originals such as “Rage” and covers of Ozzy Osbourne and Motörhead.
The venture aligns with a new Audien Hearing campaign, reflecting Shatner’s personal experience with tinnitus and hearing loss dating back to a “Star Trek” explosion incident. Despite the loud environment aggravating his tinnitus, Shatner says the music “enlivens” his life and plans to fine-tune the recordings after listening to the final mixes.
