Aalesund survives dramatic cup showdown with Førde after extra-time thriller
Aalesund edged Førde 4-3 in a cup tie that featured early red cards, multiple lead changes and a decisive goal in extra time.
In a cup encounter that turned chaotic, Aalesund’s Luca Podlech was expelled after just three minutes for conceding a penalty, allowing Førde’s Vegard Lorgen to score and later add a second goal. Aalesund rallied, with Elias Myrlid narrowing the deficit and Elias Hagen equalising shortly after, pushing the match to a 2-2 deadlock. Substitute Ivan Djantou gave Aalesund a brief lead in the first extra-time period, only for Daniel Gjelsvik to restore parity for Førde in the second.
The deadlock was finally broken when Myrlid struck again, delivering a 4-3 victory for Aalesund five minutes before the extra-time whistle. The result follows Førde’s recent 0-9 loss to Vard Haugesund and comes amid other cup upsets involving lower-division sides.
