AAP and Goa Forward Party launch "Goa First" coalition for 2027 state vote

The Aam Aadmi Party and Goa Forward Party announced a pre-poll alliance called “Goa First” ahead of the 2027 Goa assembly elections, positioning themselves as an alternative to the BJP and Congress.

At a press conference in Panaji, AAP and Goa Forward Party unveiled their pre-poll coalition named "Goa First" for the 2027 Goa legislative assembly contest, presenting a non-BJP, non-Congress option. Arvind Kejriwal asserted that the BJP would not achieve a majority and that the alliance would become the governing force. He also reflected on recent Rajya Sabha defections, promising stricter candidate vetting in the future.

GFP leader Vijai Sardesai described the tie-up as a safeguard against a government riddled with defectors and highlighted the alliance's openness to additional partners. Currently, AAP holds two seats and GFP one in the 40-member assembly, while GFP previously allied with Congress in 2022. Kejriwal cited the party’s loyalty record in other states to reinforce the coalition’s credibility.

Why it matters

The new coalition could reshape Goa's political landscape by challenging the dominance of the BJP and Congress.
