Aarhus mosque leader sentenced for welfare fraud and insurance deception
The head of the Grimhøj Mosque in Aarhus was convicted of social fraud and given a prison term, with part of the sentence suspended.
Vestre Landsret confirmed the lower court's decision that Imam Oussama Mohamad El-Saadi, chair of the Grimhøj Mosque in Aarhus, and his cousin committed social fraud by claiming they lived separately while cohabiting, thereby obtaining undue welfare payments. El-Saadi was sentenced to twelve months and six weeks in prison, with only three months to be served immediately; the remainder is suspended. His cousin was handed a suspended term of one year and three months.
The scheme targeted Udbetaling Danmark and Aarhus Kommune. In addition, the court found that El-Saadi attempted to defraud an insurance company by submitting a false claim for a stolen computer. He denied wrongdoing in a prior interview.
