Abandoned Aeroflot Airbus sits idle at Geneva airport amid sanctions dispute
An Aeroflot-registered Airbus A321 has been left unused on the perimeter of Geneva Airport for an extended period, caught up in a legal and financial clash triggered by Western sanctions on Russia.
The blue-red Airbus, owned by Aeroflot, arrived at Geneva shortly before a scheduled flight to Moscow and was never returned to service. After passengers disembarked, the aircraft was supposed to be cleaned and prepared for new travelers, but required certifications expired and mandatory maintenance was not performed. Consequently, the plane is currently not airworthy and remains grounded at the airport, becoming a symbol of the broader dispute over sanctions and asset seizures.
