Abbott teams up with Google Health to add AI insights to Lingo glucose monitor

Abbott has struck a multi-year deal with Google Health to integrate data from its over-the-counter Lingo continuous glucose monitor into the Google Health app, offering AI-driven lifestyle suggestions.

Abbott announced a multi-year collaboration with Google Health to connect its Lingo continuous glucose monitor to the Google Health application. Through this link, users can access real-time glucose data and receive AI-generated recommendations from the Google Health Coach, aimed at helping them make immediate dietary and lifestyle choices. Lingo is sold as an over-the-counter device for adults not on insulin, a market where evidence of health benefits is still unclear.

Experts have warned that non-diabetic individuals may over-focus on glucose readings and lack the expertise to interpret them correctly. As part of the agreement, the companies will conduct one of the largest real-world metabolic health studies, merging continuous glucose, wearable, laboratory and survey data to uncover patterns linking activity, sleep and overall metabolic health. The study could generate insights that encourage broader use of Lingo or subscriptions to Google Health Premium. Health professionals advise consulting a primary-care physician before altering diet or health habits based on such data.

Why it matters

The deal could shape how everyday consumers use AI and glucose monitoring to manage diet and health.
