Abu Dhabi royal admits child neglect after collapsing on West London street during cocaine binge

Mahrah Al Nahyan, a member of Abu Dhabi's royal family, was found unconscious on a West London sidewalk while caring for a three-year-old after using cocaine and later pleaded guilty to child neglect.

In June, Mahrah Al Nahyan, 32, was found passed out on a West London street near railings, with a three-year-old child playing barefoot nearby among toys. Passersby intervened and called police, who later discovered drug paraphernalia but no substances on her. She appeared unresponsive for about 30 minutes before waking and making erratic remarks about a "slaughterhouse."

At Southwark Crown Court she pleaded guilty to a single charge of child neglect and received a two-year community order, a £5,000 fine and £1,000 in costs, noting her monthly allowance of £8,000. The judge highlighted the recklessness of leaving the child unattended while under the influence. Al Nahyan has been in treatment at the Priory centre in Woking since July and plans to complete a three-month programme and then become a day patient in Guildford while attending Narcotics Anonymous. Prosecutor Rio Pahlavanpour and defence counsel Stephen Vullo emphasized her remorse and ongoing recovery efforts.

Why it matters

The case underscores legal accountability for child safety and drug abuse, even among wealthy foreign royals.
