Accuser claims workplace fear shielded Russell Brand after alleged assault

A woman testifying at Russell Brand’s trial said a culture of fear would have led managers to dismiss her report of being pinned, groped and kissed by the comedian.

In court, a witness for the prosecution said that at the time of the alleged assault, the workplace discouraged reporting, with managers likely to respond "you're lucky" to any complaint. She alleged that Russell Brand pinned her to a corridor wall, kissed her hard and groped her while three men and a woman observed but did not act. The woman said she only came forward after seeing a 2023 Dispatches documentary about Brand’s alleged misconduct, which triggered her to report the event to police.

She expressed confusion over why the bystanders did nothing and emphasized she gains nothing by testifying. Brand continues to deny three rape counts, three sexual-assault counts and one indecent-assault count as the trial proceeds.

Why it matters

The testimony highlights alleged systemic intimidation that can silence victims of celebrity misconduct.
