ACT and NSW police launch joint raids targeting domestic violence offenders across borders

ACT and New South Wales police conducted coordinated operations that resulted in the arrest of fifteen men in the ACT and hundreds of additional arrests in NSW for domestic and family violence offences.

In a joint effort, ACT police's Operation Shepherd and NSW Police's Operation Amarok targeted individuals accused of domestic and family violence who had moved between the two jurisdictions. Fifteen men were arrested in the ACT, including one extradited from NSW, and more than 700 arrests were made across New South Wales, accompanied by 1,589 charges over three days. The raids resulted in the seizure of two firearms, ammunition, drugs and over 100 firearms and 16 weapons in NSW, as well as numerous bail and protection-order compliance checks that uncovered hundreds of breaches.

Five additional men received summons for family-violence-related offences or order breaches. Police also updated offender vehicle registration data to flag prohibited contacts during traffic stops. Both jurisdictions emphasized that offenders cannot evade detection by crossing borders and pledged continued collaboration.

Why it matters

The coordinated raids show law-enforcement's commitment to tackling domestic violence that spans state lines.
