ACT Education Directorate revamps school funding formula after review finds bias
The ACT Education Directorate announced a overhaul of public-school budgeting, shifting resources away from a model that favored older students.
Following one outlet's review that highlighted an over-emphasis on senior pupils, the ACT Education Directorate will recalculate funding for territory schools. Forty-three schools will keep roughly the same budget, 31 will receive increases exceeding 5 percent, and 18 will see cuts of more than 5 percent. The Australian Education Union’s ACT branch president warned that the reductions could force colleges to eliminate entire programs.
