Activist Sonam Wangchuk urges peaceful overhaul of India's leadership before 2047

Ahead of Independence Day, Sonam Wangchuk used a video on X to argue that India risks falling behind its neighbours in per-capita GDP by 2047 unless a peaceful revolution reshapes its leadership. Citing his recent illness, he reflected on the country's lagging education reforms, noting the resignation of the former education minister but expressing doubt about the new minister's impact. He highlighted that nearly half of MPs face criminal charges, with a third accused of serious offences such as murder, rape and kidnapping, warning this erodes public trust.

Wangchuk called on ordinary citizens to nominate people of courage and principle who could help design a new roadmap for the nation, and asked them to translate and share his message. The appeal aligns with his ongoing activism in Ladakh, including involvement with the Cockroach Janata Party, which protests governance issues in the Union Territory.
