Actor Francis Renaud detained over alleged rapes, harassment and violence

Actor, director and screenwriter Francis Renaud was placed in police custody on accusations of rape, harassment and violence following a complaint by his former partner.

Francis Renaud, a 59-year-old actor, director and screenwriter, was taken into police custody on Monday after his former partner filed a complaint accusing him of rape, harassment and violent conduct. She claims Renaud compelled her to engage in sexual acts with other men for roughly a dozen years, with some incidents said to have taken place in Vernon, Eure, his current residence, and elsewhere in France. The case is being investigated by the DCOS (division of organized and specialized crime) in Rouen, and the prosecutor of Evreux, Rémi Coutin, confirmed the detention.

Renaud is recognized for his work in Olivier Marchal’s movies and TV series like Zodiaque and L’Affaire Villemin. In 2024 he himself lodged complaints against director André Téchiné and casting director Gérard Moulevrier, which were later dismissed as prescribed. One outlet allegations revive scrutiny of his past legal confrontations.
