Actor Imran Khan Pal challenges abrupt ‘leave India’ order in Bombay High Court
Actor Imran Khan Pal has petitioned the Bombay High Court to overturn a FRRO notice that compels him to exit India by October 28, describing the order as arbitrary and a breach of his constitutional rights.
Imran Khan Pal, a 44-year-old actor who has lived in India since childhood, approached the Bombay High Court on Saturday to contest a ‘leave India’ notice that gives him until October 28 to depart the country. The notice, issued by the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer, was served without a hearing and is described in the petition as arbitrary, unreasoned, and contrary to natural justice. Khan alleges the order infringes Articles 14 and 21 of the Constitution, which protect equality and life, and labels it a punitive measure aimed at making him a scapegoat.
The notice was triggered shortly after a Mumbai protest over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, which Khan attended, and cites unspecified violations of the Immigration and Foreigners Act 2025. His counsel, MZM Legal, argues the order lacks any factual basis, security report, or due process, and requests an urgent stay to prevent enforcement. The petition emphasizes that even foreign nationals are entitled to constitutional safeguards and that the action represents an abuse of statutory authority.
Why it matters
The case tests how immigration law can be used against residents and raises questions about due process for foreigners in India.
