ADAC calls for ending daily fuel price increase limit as studies show higher costs

Since the introduction of a regulation that restricts gasoline and diesel stations to one price increase per day, the ADAC maintains that consumer prices have not fallen. The association points out that the rule has broadened the gap between the cheapest and most expensive fueling times, a conclusion echoed by the Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research and the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research, which found higher average prices and systematic midday hikes.

In response to rising fuel costs, the federal government intends to offer a temporary fuel tax rebate and is considering a price-cap to curb extreme spikes, though the ADAC stresses that the cap alone will not guarantee lower long-term prices. Cartel office president Andreas Mundt has called on oil firms to transmit the tax relief promptly to motorists, noting the agency’s limited enforcement power. ADAC supports the tax cut as the most realistic immediate relief for drivers.
