Adam Ramsay-Peaty finishes fifth as Nicolo Martinenghi wins 100m breaststroke in Paris

At the European Aquatics Championships in Paris, veteran Adam Ramsay-Peaty slipped to fifth place in the men’s 100m breaststroke final, marking his first defeat in any round of the competition. The race was won by Italy’s Olympic champion Nicolo Martinenghi in 58.58 seconds, followed by Ivan Kozhakin and fellow Italian Simone Cerasuolo. Ramsay-Peaty’s time of 59.10 was a half-second faster than his performance at the Commonwealth Games, and he finished just 0.01 seconds ahead of Great Britain teammate Filip Nowacki, who earlier made history for Jersey with a 200m breaststroke gold in Glasgow. In other events, Britain’s Katie Shanahan captured the 200m backstroke title with a margin of 1.49 seconds, while Angharad Evans posted a new championship record of 1:04.97 in the women’s 100m breaststroke semi-final.
