Addiction consultant indicted for supplying drugs to patients and endangering minors

A 45-year-old addiction-treatment consultant in Budapest has been charged with giving illegal drugs to his patients and jeopardising minors, with prosecutors seeking a lengthy prison term.

Budapest's district prosecutors have filed charges against a 45-year-old addiction-consultant for illegally dispensing drugs to patients and exposing minors to danger. The individual started as a social aide in a youth-focused drug-therapy organisation, later completed formal addiktológiai training and worked as a therapeutic colleague, also offering private counselling in the city's VIII district. Investigators allege he began consuming narcotics himself and supplied them to several clients, including a teenager who died in February 2024 after taking a small amount of multiple drugs and a medication.

Despite the fatality, he kept selling substances, putting another under-age client at risk. The Budapest XX, XXI and XXIII District Prosecutor’s Office accuses him of large-scale drug trafficking, intentional endangerment and related crimes, and has asked the Budapest Metropolitan Court to impose a severe sentence of up to 12 years, a ban from the profession and confiscation of his assets.
