Administration pushes coordinated government effort to secure domestic drone ecosystem
The Trump administration is urging multiple federal agencies to work together on drone security, emphasizing domestic production and supply-chain resilience.
At a briefing in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, officials stressed that drones are becoming integral to sectors ranging from defense to farming, prompting a whole-of-government response. Sebastian Gorka cited a drone firm’s vision of on-demand food delivery, while Kelly Loeffler credited President Trump’s rapid actions for enabling small businesses to scale. The Pentagon’s Office of Strategic Capital recently pledged a conditional loan of up to $820 million to Performance Drone Works for high-volume domestic component production.
Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Stephen Vaden warned that many farm drones now contain foreign parts that could transmit data abroad, citing a recent UK Ministry of Defense incident involving Chinese-sourced cameras. Undersecretary Emil Michael said the goal is a resilient, American-only supply chain, and agencies such as DHS and the FAA are coordinating to protect airspace from unauthorized drones after several incursions at military sites.
