Adobe unveils AI-focused Photoshop update with new optional editor

Adobe has introduced a beta version of Photoshop featuring an optional “AI Assisted Editor” toolbar that gathers all of its generative AI tools in one place.

Adobe is rolling out a beta update for Photoshop that centers on generative AI capabilities. The new optional view, named AI Assisted Editor, presents all AI functions—prompt-driven editing, background eraser, image extender and more—in a streamlined toolbar. A markup feature lets users sketch, color or point directly on the canvas to indicate desired changes, bypassing text prompts.

The Instruct Edit with Masks tool has been upgraded to respond to natural-language instructions, so users can describe edits such as reopening closed eyes or placing a hat on a subject. According to Adobe, the Firefly Image 5 model now understands the entire image context, eliminating the need to manually mask each area. The update is currently available in beta and aims to simplify AI-driven workflows for Photoshop users.

Why it matters

The upgrade makes AI tools more accessible in Photoshop, potentially speeding up creative workflows for designers.
