Advance voting begins in Quebec ahead of Oct. 5 general election

Advance polls opened in Quebec on Monday and Tuesday, letting voters cast ballots before the Oct. 5 election. Five parties are competing, and the campaign has been dominated by claims of foreign interference.

Quebec opened its advance voting period, with polls operating from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on both days. Voters can now vote ahead of the Oct. 5 general election. The race features the Coalition Avenir Québec, Parti Québécois, Quebec Liberals, Quebec Conservatives and Québec solidaire. Campaign rhetoric has focused on alleged foreign meddling, and CAQ leader Christine Fréchette warned that the United States might back the sovereigntist PQ to destabilize Canada, though she said no evidence of current interference exists.

Why it matters

Early voting expands access to the ballot, and foreign-interference accusations could shape voter sentiment in a key provincial election.
