AEW's Fight Forever game incurs over $30 million loss, future titles delayed
The 2023 release of AEW Fight Forever reportedly cost the promotion more than $30 million, and no sequel is planned for the near future.
According to gaming reporter Mike Shaw, AEW Fight Forever cost the wrestling promotion more than $30 million, far beyond its original budget. The title, championed by Kenny Omega, missed its 2022 release window and finally arrived near the Forbidden Door event in 2023, inflating development costs. Budget overruns and missed deadlines forced the removal of notable talent such as the Acclaimed, FTR, Toni Storm, Claudio Castagnoli, Danhausen and Swerve, with some later added via DLC.
Critical reception was mixed, and sales achieved only about half of the company’s expectations, deepening the financial shortfall. AEW has no licensing deal with developer Yukes and does not foresee a new game in the immediate future, though the promotion remains interested in gaming as a long-term venture. The loss adds to broader business challenges, including low attendance figures and uncertain TV rights negotiations ahead of the 2028 contract expiry.
Why it matters
The sizable loss highlights financial risks for AEW's expansion into video games and may affect its broader business strategy.
