AfD and BSW agree to push for a coronavirus inquiry in Saxony-Anhalt

In Saxony-Anhalt, the AfD and the freshly formed BSW faction have aligned on demanding a parliamentary inquiry into the region's COVID-19 policies. The AfD, which pledged to hold officials accountable during the election, sees the probe as a way to expose alleged misconduct. BSW also supports the committee, making the investigation a joint point in their ongoing negotiations.

However, the two parties diverge on the future of the public broadcaster MDR: AfD leader Ulrich Siegmund wants to cancel existing broadcasting contracts, while BSW proposes a commission to study possible reforms. These discussions are crucial for the AfD, which won 39 of 83 seats and needs at least three more votes to form a majority, potentially gaining them with BSW’s five seats. Despite the shared inquiry demand, BSW has ruled out a formal coalition with the AfD, leaving the partnership uncertain.
