AfD's Holm pushes for Mecklenburg-Vorpommern parliamentary presidency after strong vote gain

In the wake of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern elections, AfD's premier candidate Holm declared that the party will occupy 32 seats in the state parliament, marking an 18-seat rise. He is pressing for the role of Landtag president for the AfD and announced plans to set up a COVID-19 investigation committee, blaming SPD Minister President Manuela Schwesig for a rigid pandemic response. Holm, also co-leader of the AfD in the northeast, currently lacks a seat in the Landtag and indicated he would stay in the Bundestag if the AfD remains outside any state government.

Meanwhile, Berlin's election results showed a sharp decline for the SPD, prompting Franziska Giffey to call for internal reflection, and the CDU suffered losses in both states. The Left's Elif Eralp won a direct mandate in Berlin, positioning her as a potential mayoral candidate.
