Afghan suspect in British aid worker’s suitcase murder attacked in Greek prison

The case of Sharif Ahmadzai, accused of murdering 38-year-old British aid worker Elisabeth Jane Ross and stuffing her corpse in a suitcase, took another turn when he was beaten by other prisoners at Greece’s Korydallos Prison. Ahmadzai, charged with homicide with intent, robbery and illegal gun possession, was moved to the overcrowded facility in August while awaiting trial. Inmates, who allegedly label him a “lady killer,” launched a fierce attack that required him to be taken to the infirmary.

Authorities say the assault happened shortly after his arrival, underscoring the prison’s reputation for inhumane treatment. Ross, a volunteer from Edinburgh, had been working with a Christian-based NGO assisting refugees when her body was discovered in an abandoned building. Ahmadzai’s wife, Alaina Hall, reported suspicious behavior that led police to investigate and arrest him.
