Aged serial killer Rose West reported to be frail and on emergency evacuation plan
Rose West, 72, is described as extremely frail in HMP New Hall and has been placed on a Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan due to her worsening health.
Rose West, now 72, has been confined for 31 years after a 1995 life sentence for her role in at least nine murders with husband Fred West. Recent reports from HMP New Hall in West Yorkshire indicate she is in a severely deteriorated state, barely able to move and dependent on staff for safety. Because of this, officials have instituted a Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan, a measure reserved for inmates who cannot self-evacuate during incidents such as fires.
West, transferred from Low Newton prison in Durham in 2019, spends most of her time watching TV and reading, unable to participate in any activities. Earlier prison doctors had placed her on a diet after she became dangerously overweight, reaching 18 stone. The prison service reiterated that her crimes were horrific and she will remain in custody for life.
