Agility Robotics unveils Digit 5 humanoid with proximity safety and stronger lifting

Agility Robotics revealed its next-generation humanoid, Digit 5, built to operate safely alongside people by sensing proximity and either slowing, stopping, or lowering itself to the ground before contact. The redesign, informed by deployments with Amazon, Toyota and GXO, replaces the earlier model’s backward-bending knees with a more human-like leg architecture, boosting lifting strength to 50 pounds—roughly 40% more than its predecessor.

The robot can recharge in about nine minutes after a 90-minute shift and sustain more than 20 hours of operation per day, with interchangeable grippers for varied tasks. Agility reports over $300 million in multiyear orders for Digit 5, despite a $140 million operating loss and $1.8 million in net sales in 2025. Pricing examples suggest a $200,000 unit cost plus deployment and annual service fees, totaling about $400,000 over five years. The company, led by Peggy Johnson, aims to go public via a SPAC at a $2.5 billion valuation, with Digit 5 expected in North America in the first half of 2027 and later in the EU and United Kingdom.
