Agoura Road shut for wildlife bridge work; detours and free shuttles provided
Calabasas will close a section of Agoura Road twice this week to install the $114 million Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing, with detours and complimentary shuttle service offered.
Calabasas officials confirmed that Agoura Road will be blocked twice this week—once on Friday and again on Wednesday—from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. to allow construction of the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing, a $114 million bridge designed to reunite wildlife corridors split by highways. Motorists are advised to detour onto US 101 between Chesebro Road and Liberty Canyon Road and obey signage. Caltrans District 7 will operate a free shuttle service at 30-minute intervals throughout the closure periods.
The crossing, measuring 210 feet long and 174 feet wide, will support up to four feet of soil and thousands of native plants, aiming to restore ecosystems disrupted by roads. Rorie Skei of the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy highlighted the project as the final critical phase of a three-decade effort to protect habitat linkages. The bridge is slated to open on December 2.
