AgriZero NZ Secures $117 million Boost and Adds Two Major Industry Partners
AgriZero NZ received an additional $117 million in funding, split equally between government and industry, and welcomed Alliance and Farmlands as new partners.
AgriZero NZ announced a $117 million funding injection, equally shared by government and industry, bringing its total capital to $308 million. New industry partners Alliance and Farmlands joined a roster that already includes The a2 Milk Company, ANZ, ANZCO, ASB, BNZ, Fonterra, Rabobank, Ravensdown, Silver Fern Farms and Synlait, each holding a stake in the venture. Board chair Rob Hewett said the scale of the investment underscores both the magnitude of the emissions problem and the sector’s resolve to satisfy overseas buyers demanding greener supply chains.
He expects a steady rollout of one to two emissions-reduction tools each year, with farmers having five to six options by 2030. The first product likely to reach farms is a methane-blocking bolus from Kiwi firm Ruminant Biotech, currently undergoing regulatory review. CEO Wayne McNee noted that sustained funding will help move promising technologies through testing and approval, even though not every project will succeed.
Why it matters
The funding accelerates development of emissions-reduction tools crucial for New Zealand's agricultural exports and climate goals.
