AI digital twin opens Jobstreet Connect, sparking debate on human-AI roles

At Jobstreet Connect, ASEAMETRICS CEO Liza Manalo-Mapagu’s AI avatar introduced her before she appeared, illustrating her vision of human-AI collaboration in hiring.

Jobstreet Connect brought together over 200 business and HR professionals to discuss the growing influence of artificial intelligence in recruitment and workplace management. The event’s opening featured an AI-generated likeness of ASEAMETRICS CEO Liza Manalo-Mapagu, complete with her face, voice and biography, which introduced her before she walked onstage. Manalo-Mapagu described the digital twin as a way to amplify her message and overcome human time limits, while stressing the need for explicit disclosure that the avatar is synthetic and that she remains accountable for its content.

The summit unveiled seekAi, a new AI engine designed to rank applicants, suggest recruiter actions, automate reference checks and even conduct pre-screening voice interviews. While she highlighted benefits such as patience and consistency, Manalo-Mapagu insisted that final hiring decisions must involve a human. DITO Telecommunity’s HR chief Holy Ampaguey advocated for onboarding AI like any colleague, with defined job descriptions, codes of conduct, supervision and performance reviews. The event underscored the tension between AI efficiency and the necessity of human oversight in talent acquisition.

Why it matters

It shows how AI avatars and hiring tools are entering HR, raising questions about transparency and human oversight.
