AI music firm Suno pulls unauthorized Mary J. Blige ad after backlash

AI platform Suno removed a video ad that falsely showed Mary J. Blige endorsing an AI-generated track after the singer objected.

An AI music generator called Suno posted an 85-second advertisement that seemed to depict Mary J. Blige collaborating on a track resembling her classic style, praising the process as "amazing" and "dope." The singer later clarified she had not authorized the video, and Suno admitted it had signed a deal with an individual who falsely claimed to represent her. The firm promptly terminated the ad campaign.

The controversy emerges amid Sunb’s strained relations with the music industry, including licensing agreements with Warner and BMG, and ongoing litigation with Universal, Sony, and a recent lawsuit by Jason Isbell over unauthorized use of artists’ identities. A German court recently ruled the company was violating copyright laws in the U.S. and Germany.
