AI-Powered MRI Cuts Scan Time and Boosts Image Clarity at Utah Hospital
Intermountain Medical Center has begun using GE HealthCare’s Signature Sprint Elite MRI, which leverages AI to shorten examinations and produce sharper images for cardiac and oncology patients.
Intermountain Medical Center in Utah has become the second U.S. facility to install GE HealthCare’s Signature Sprint Elite MRI, a system that incorporates artificial-intelligence software to accelerate scan times and enhance image quality. The equipment is especially beneficial for heart and cancer imaging, where traditional scanners often demand prolonged breath-holds. Cardiologist Brent Wilson explained that the sharper images facilitate new methods for identifying injured heart tissue, representing a significant advance in cardiac MRI.
MRI coordinator Amy Warnick said patients, particularly those with cardiac issues, experience greater comfort and reduced procedure length. The AI component lowers the signal-to-noise ratio, improving clarity while allowing the hospital to serve more patients and shorten diagnostic delays. GE HealthCare’s Joel Christensen expressed satisfaction in bringing the technology to Utah’s clinicians, emphasizing its role in supporting swift, confident medical decisions. The first U.S. installation is in Virginia, with another unit operating at a Belgian hospital.
