AI safety positions surge 91% as hiring freezes linger
LinkedIn reports that AI safety jobs have risen 91% over the past year, standing out in a generally stagnant employment market.
During the Talent Connect conference, LinkedIn CEO Daniel Shapero noted that overall hiring remains frozen, yet AI safety jobs have grown 91% in the last year, making them a rare bright spot. The field spans technical research, risk mitigation, policy development and embedding safety measures into AI products, and typically commands lucrative compensation, with examples ranging from OpenAI safety researchers earning up to $325,000 to Anthropic safeguards analysts earning up to $285,000.
High-profile security concerns, such as Anthropic's Mythos model vulnerability and OpenAI's internal data access issues, have heightened demand. LinkedIn's broader data also shows rapid growth in related roles like forward-deployed AI experts (+226%) and AI forensic analysts (+169%). Companies such as Google, Meta and others are actively recruiting for safety-focused positions, underscoring the sector's expanding importance.
