Analysis by OpenAI's verification service identified the composite as likely AI-generated, citing a watermark and other signals. The higher-resolution version displayed an unblurred face and altered uniform colors compared with the original, lower-quality image captured by a local resident and used by news outlets on September 27.

Both pictures show five men on the ground with a torch-like light behind them, but the AI-enhanced version changes details such as badge appearance and uniform sleeve patches. OpenAI states its watermark detection is reliable and false positives are rare. The incident itself involved five British men in their 20s who were later released on bail.
