AIAC handles up to 900 disputes yearly, pushes for more global cases
The Asian International Arbitration Centre processes 800-900 cases each year, mainly construction payment disputes, and is expanding its free commercial mediation service.
The Asian International Arbitration Centre said it adjudicates roughly 800 to 900 disputes each year, the bulk of which involve construction payment issues resolved via the Construction Industry Payment and Adjudication Act 2012. At the same time, AIAC has rolled out a Pro Bono Commercial Mediation Initiative offering free mediation across 26 categories, attracting almost 20 cases since its May debut. The government has asked the centre to examine doubling the mediation claim ceiling from RM250,000 to RM500,000.
These developments were highlighted at the eighth Asia ADR Week 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, a conference co-organized with local and international law firms to showcase Malaysia's arbitration capabilities. AIAC aims to position the country as a preferred venue for global commercial disputes, marking the start of a road to its 50th anniversary in 2028, attended by senior government officials.
Why it matters
AIAC's growth could make Malaysia a key hub for resolving international commercial disputes.
