Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin clinches first Malaysian World Tour men’s singles title at Vietnam Open
Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin won the Vietnam Open men's singles, becoming the first Malaysian to capture a World Tour title this year.
In Ho Chi Minh City, Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin secured the Vietnam Open men’s singles title, beating Singapore’s top seed Jason Teh 21-16, 21-14. The victory makes him the first Malaysian to win a World Tour event this season and his first Super 100 crown after runner-up spots at the Indonesia Masters (II) and the Al Ain Masters. Coach Nova Armada highlighted Aidid’s improved mental and physical form, attributing it to a renewed training focus after a poor showing at the Thomas Cup in Denmark.
The win brought Aidid US$8,250, while Teh earned US$4,180, and the player also landed a sponsorship deal lasting until 2028. Fellow Malaysians Lee Zii Jia and Leong Jun Hao exited early in the same tournament.
Why it matters
The win signals a breakthrough for Malaysian badminton and boosts the sport’s profile in the region.
