AI‑guided hikers rescued after night on Mount Shasta

Three inexperienced hikers from Roseville used Google Gemini to plan a climb of Mount Shasta. After reaching about 12,800 ft they ignored the AI’s advice to turn back and began descending in darkness, losing navigation when a phone battery died. The group spent the night near 11,000 ft without adequate food or water. Forest‑service climbing rangers located them and, together with the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Department and local search‑and‑rescue teams, guided them to safety. A helicopter evacuation was called but cancelled because of high winds.
