Air Force parachutist falls from Alamodome ceiling during UTSA pregame show

An Air Force service member slipped while rappelling from the Alamodome’s 170-foot ceiling and landed on the field during a UTSA football pregame ceremony.

At the start of the University of Texas-San Antonio football game against Navy, four Air Force personnel performed a fast-rope demonstration from the Alamodome’s roughly 170-foot ceiling. One unnamed airman from Detachment 2 of the 6th Combat Training Squadron slipped on the line and fell dozens of feet onto the field, striking the turf. Spectators heard screams as the band stopped and the stadium fell silent.

Emergency responders attended the athlete for about ten minutes before he was moved on a stretcher to a local hospital, where his condition was reported as critical. The game was delayed for roughly ten minutes while officials addressed the situation and offered support services to attendees and the university community.
