Air India, Air India Express and Akasa Air raise fuel surcharges from Oct 9

From Oct 9, Air India, Air India Express and Akasa Air will add new fuel surcharges to domestic and international tickets, with rates based on distance or destination region, citing higher aviation fuel costs.

Effective Oct 9, 2026, Air India, Air India Express and Akasa Air will impose updated fuel surcharges on both domestic and international itineraries. For domestic routes, Air India and Air India Express will charge Rs 400 to Rs 1,200 based on distance, while Akasa Air will apply four bands from Rs 375 to Rs 1,150. Internationally, Air India and Air India Express will levy region-based fees of $215 for North America, $210 for Australia, $135 for Europe and the UK, and $55 for West Asia and the Middle East; Akasa Air will charge a uniform Rs 2,500 for flights to Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Thailand and Vietnam.

The adjustments come as geopolitical tensions and disruptions in energy markets push up aviation turbine fuel (ATF) costs, prompting carriers to recover part of the expense. Each airline said the surcharges will be reviewed as fuel prices evolve. Passengers booking after the implementation time will see the new fees reflected in ticket prices.
