Air India Express 737 Returns to Cochin After Engine Oil Loss Mid-Flight
A Boeing 737 operating Air India Express flight IX 415 from Cochin to Abu Dhabi turned back after the crew detected a rapid drop in oil level on Engine 1 and shut it down, landing safely at Cochin International Airport.
About 50 minutes into the scheduled Cochin-Abu Dhabi service, the aircraft was cruising at 36,000 feet when the pilots observed a sharp decline in oil quantity for Engine 1. Following a FORDEC assessment, they decided to abort the Abu Dhabi leg and head back. The crew later shut down the affected engine as oil pressure entered the danger zone, and the plane touched down without incident at Cochin International Airport.
