Air India fires pilot after AAIB finds psychoactive substance in test

Air India has terminated the pilot-in-command of its August 4 Phuket-Delhi flight after a confirmatory test by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau indicated a non-negative result for a psychoactive substance. The airline said the move reflects its zero-tolerance stance on any breach of safety, fitness or regulatory standards. The flight experienced an abrupt altitude loss during cruise, injuring 20 passengers and four crew members.

In a statement, Air India stressed that safety is its highest priority and that the pilot's employment ended with immediate effect.
