Airtel adds free roaming to postpaid plans while raising monthly fees

Bharti Airtel introduced complimentary international roaming on all postpaid subscriptions, allowing one overseas trip per year, and increased its tariffs by ₹50.

Bharti Airtel rolled out a free international roaming add-on across its entire postpaid portfolio, granting one annual overseas journey with 5 GB of data, 60 minutes of voice minutes, 25 outgoing SMS and unlimited incoming SMS for five days. The feature is extended to every subscriber on family plans, meaning each family member can use it. Concurrently, the company raised the monthly charge for all postpaid plans by ₹50, setting the lowest price at ₹499 for an individual and scaling up to ₹1,799 for a five-person family.

Airtel highlighted its 5G Fast Lane and fraud-protection capabilities as part of the enhanced offering. This initiative comes after Vodafone Idea introduced free roaming for prepaid, postpaid and enterprise customers, positioning both rivals in a competitive market where outbound travel costs have risen sharply.

Why it matters

The new roaming benefit and price hike affect millions of Indian mobile users and signal intensified competition in the telecom sector.
