AKPS Boosts Security Measures Ahead of Johor Bahru-Singapore RTS Launch

In anticipation of the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System link slated for launch next January, the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency is stepping up its security readiness. Director-general Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain explained that the agency is combining advanced technology with intensive personnel training and operational simulations to ensure thorough document and cargo inspections. About 400 trainees are currently completing a three-month program at the Segamat Police Training Centre and are expected to finish by the end of September, after which they will be deployed in October.

AKPS will also guide the RTS operators on adopting appropriate security technologies and is testing artificial intelligence to help curb illicit smuggling, acknowledging that AI still requires a machine-learning period before it matures. Initial deployments will see new staff working alongside senior officers at the Sultan Iskandar Building to gain practical experience before the system becomes fully operational in January.
