Al Jabal Al Akhdar Named GCC Tourism Capital for 2027

Oman's Al Jabal Al Akhdar was chosen as the GCC Tourism Capital for 2027 during a tourism ministers meeting in Bahrain.

During the GCC's 10th meeting of tourism ministers in Bahrain, the Wilayat of Al Jabal Al Akhdar in Oman's A’Dakhiliyah Governorate was appointed the GCC Tourism Capital for 2027. The award follows a comprehensive nomination dossier prepared by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, which highlighted the region's mountainous terrain, moderate climate, agricultural terraces and heritage villages producing roses, pomegranates, walnuts and honey.

Minister Sayyid Ibrahim Said Al Busaidi said the honor crowns years of development and reflects collaboration with private partners that have expanded facilities and accommodations. Undersecretary Azzan Qasim Al Busaidi outlined plans for an integrated tourism programme in 2027, featuring seasonal events, targeted marketing to Gulf markets and incentives for small- and medium-size enterprises. Wali Sheikh Sultan Mansoor Al Ghafeeli emphasized community involvement and the need to ready sites, services and local crafts for the expected visitor influx. The initiative aims to lengthen stays, boost tourism revenue and generate sustainable economic benefits for residents and entrepreneurs.
