Alabama expands Troy career-tech hub with $250 million state investment
State officials and local partners celebrated a ribbon-cutting and groundbreaking in Troy for the expanded Academy Street Career Innovation Center, funded by Alabama’s $250 million CTE program.
Leaders gathered on Academy Street in Troy to ribbon-cut the upgraded Academy Street Career Innovation Center and break ground on a complementary CTE training building, projects backed by $250 million in state funds allocated over 2025 and 2026. House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter emphasized that such investments link state resources with local leadership to build a skilled workforce. Representative Marcus Paramore and Workforce Secretary Greg Reed stressed the importance of CTE for connecting students to high-demand careers and meeting employer needs.
The center currently provides training in fields like mechatronics, electrical line work, computer science, aerospace engineering and public safety, and includes dual-enrollment options for college credit. Mayor Jason Reeves and Pike County Schools Superintendent Mark Bazzell praised the anticipated economic benefits for the community. The expansion is part of the Alabama Career Pathways initiative, which aims to align education with the state’s economic priorities.
