Alabama woman convicted of first-degree assault after chemical burn attack on friend

Quicheay Williams was found guilty of first-degree assault for splashing a drain-cleaner-like chemical on her homeless friend Jasmine Clausell, causing severe burns.

In Mobile, Alabama, a jury convicted Quicheay Williams of first-degree assault after she heated a liquid chemical, similar to a drain cleaner, in a microwave and splashed it onto her longtime friend Jasmine Clausell. The assault occurred following a dispute over Clausell asking Williams to move out of her home, which prosecutors said provoked the violent response. Clausell suffered severe chemical burns on roughly one-third of her left side, required multiple skin grafts, lost her left eardrum, lost hearing in that ear, and now has limited eyesight in her left eye.

She remained hospitalized for two months and later spoke to the press, expressing gratitude for the verdict. District Attorney Keith Blackwood praised the jury’s decision, describing it as justice proven beyond a reasonable doubt. Williams faces a potential sentence of up to 20 years, while a GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support Clausell, a nursing student and single mother of a four-year-old.
