Alan Dershowitz Discusses New Book Linking America's and Israel's Founding Stories

Attorney Alan Dershowitz appeared on The Tony Kinnett Cast to promote his recently released book that compares the founders of the United States with Israel’s early leaders, including Golda Meir.

Alan Dershowitz joined host Tony Kinnett on The Tony Kinnett Cast to talk about his book, Founding Fathers and One Jewish Mother, which was issued on July 21. He described the volume as built from a private collection of documents amassed for more than 50 years, including copies of America’s founding charters and handwritten letters from the Founding Fathers, as well as correspondence from key Israeli personalities. Dershowitz highlighted the contrast between the United States’ exclusively male founders and Israel’s inclusion of Golda Meir, whom he called the “Jewish mother” of the nation.

The discussion also addressed modern attempts to reshape history for political ends, criticism of the two-state solution, and concerns about “wokeness” eroding the standards of institutions like Harvard Law and Harvard University. He warned that such trends could diminish Western academic leadership and benefit rivals such as China. The interview concluded with remarks on the role of parents and schools in transmitting historical narratives to children.

Why it matters

The book offers a new perspective on how the United States and Israel view their origins, influencing public discourse on history and education.
