Alaska couple dies in accidental shooting and subsequent suicide
A Fairbanks man unintentionally shot his girlfriend with a revolver and later took his own life after a friend called 911.
Fairbanks Police reported that Landon Lowrance, 22, was playing with a revolver and pointed it at his girlfriend, CloeRae McBrayer, 21, causing an accidental discharge that killed her. A friend immediately dialed 911 and remained on the call as responders approached. During the disturbance, Lowrance accessed a second gun and shot himself; he was taken to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital in critical condition and later died.
McBrayer, an aspiring teacher accepted to the University of Alaska Fairbanks, was already deceased when police arrived. The friend, who was not involved in the shootings, was later interviewed by detectives. Authorities emphasized the need for responsible firearm handling.
