Alberta man arrested for distributing child sexual abuse material via Telegram
A 35-year-old man from Lacombe was taken into custody after police seized computers and a device linked to a cross-border child exploitation case.
Police from Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams, Internet Child Exploitation and the Lacombe Police Service executed a search warrant at the residence of Graham St. Thomas, a 35-year-old Lacombe resident, seizing computers and an electronic device for analysis. The probe began in April after the FBI flagged a Telegram account that was circulating child sexual exploitation material, prompting collaboration with U.S. authorities.
Const. Mackenzie Jordan noted the difficulty of protecting vulnerable youth online and emphasized the importance of international partnerships such as those with the FBI. Thomas has been charged with distributing, possessing and accessing child sexual abuse material, but was released from custody under several conditions.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 29, and investigators believe he is the only individual in Alberta linked to this case. Authorities are urging anyone with further information to contact local police or Crime Stoppers.
