Alberta premier Danielle Smith to hold talks with U.S. officials amid ongoing tariff dispute

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith is scheduled to engage U.S. officials next week, turning a planned personal visit into a diplomatic mission. Accompanied by senior Alberta representative Nathan Cooper, she will meet the commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development, the head of the Nashville Chamber of Commerce and the CEO of the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp. Smith reiterated that Canada must keep pressing the United States to lift tariffs and avoid escalation, arguing that brute force will not win the dispute.

Her office highlighted Alberta’s involvement in the Council of State Governments Midwest, with MLA Jennifer Johnson representing the province, and noted upcoming missions by MLA Shane Getson to a Texas conference. Saskatchewan officials, including Premier Scott Moe’s caucus members and Agriculture Minister David Marit, will also attend the Midwest Legislative Conference in Saint Paul, Minnesota, underscoring regional coordination on energy, trade and agriculture issues.
