Algarve Secures MotoGP Hosting Rights Through 2029, Boosting Regional Tourism

The Algarve International Circuit and MotoGP Group have reached a three-year extension, guaranteeing the Portuguese Grand Prix will stay on the MotoGP schedule until at least 2029. Both the circuit’s CEO Jaime Costa and MotoGP deputy CEO Carlos Ezpeleta praised the renewal as affirmation of the circuit’s quality and its popularity among riders and fans. Since its 2020 debut, the race has become a flagship event for the region, with 2025 attendance surpassing 166,000, a new record for the venue.

Government officials, including Secretary of State for Tourism Pedro Machado and Turismo de Portugal head Carlos Abade, welcomed the deal as a significant boost for Portuguese tourism and international visibility. Regional tourism leader André Gomes emphasized the economic benefits of hosting a major event outside the traditional summer season. The extension arrives as the circuit also prepares for a Formula 1 race slated for June 2027, further cementing its status as Portugal’s premier motorsport venue.
