Alibaba plans new data center hubs across Europe and the Middle East
Alibaba announced it will expand its overseas data centre network, targeting locations in Europe and the Middle East.
Alibaba revealed a strategy to broaden its international data centre presence, focusing on new cloud regions in Turkey, Finland and the Netherlands and adding sites in Malaysia, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, France and Hong Kong over the coming year. CEO Eddie Wu said the company intends to train an AI model containing five to ten trillion parameters, far larger than any current Chinese model. Alibaba also unveiled a new AI chip, the Zhenwu V900, described as the most powerful in China.
The firm targets a global data centre capacity exceeding 20 gigawatts by 2032. These expansions occur amid heightened US-China tech rivalry and upcoming high-level talks between Chinese and American leaders in Washington.
